PhysicsLAB Practice Problems
Frequency and Period

Directions: On this worksheet you will work with relationships between frequency, period, and length in a simple pendulum lab.

Question 1  During an experiment, data is collected on the vibrations of a simple pendulum. A graph of Period2 vs Length is plotted and forms a graph with a slope of 3.77 and a y-axis intercept of 0.07. Use the fact that the numerical value of the slope represents 4π2/g to determine the value of gravity in the lab room.
Question 2  If the accepted value for gravity at sea level is 9.8 m/sec2, What is the percent error for this experiment?
Question 3  According to the data summarized by this regression line, what would be the period of a pendulum that is 58 cm long?
Question 4  Which combination of vibrations could have been possible values for the 30-second trials when testing a 58-cm pendulum?
Question 5  The period of a simple pendulum can be calculated with the formula T = 2p SQRT(L/g). However, there is procedural error which must be accommodated when conducting the experiment in order to get the best possible experimental result. Which answer below best describes this error?
Question 6  Which variable was the dependent variable during this experiment?
Question 7  What is the frequency of a pendulum whose vibration graph is shown below if its 1st trough occured at 7.45 seconds and its last trough occured at 63.45 seconds .

Question 8  A group of children are playing jump rope. Each child stays in the middle for 3.2 minutes. If the frequency of the children spinning the rope is 0.58 hz, then how many times does each child jump while he/she is in the middle?
